Fleuve Sénégal et Doué : les eaux continuent de monter, les populations appelées à la vigilance
Water levels continue to rise on the Senegal River and its tributary, the Doué, according to the hydrological bulletin published this Thursday, July 30, 2026. While levels remain below alert thresholds, the increase observed in the last 24 hours calls for increased vigilance among riverside populations.
At the Podor hydrometric station, located at the El Hadj Boubou Sall quay, the level of the Senegal River was 3.23 meters at 8 a.m., compared to 3.20 meters the day before at the same time, representing a rise of 3 centimeters in one day.
At the same time in 2025, the river level was at 3.53 meters. As a reminder, the alert level in Podor is set at 5 meters.
The same trend is observed on the Doué River, at the Guédé Chantier gauge. The water level reached 4.50 meters this Thursday morning at 8 a.m., compared to 4.44 meters on Wednesday, thus registering a rise of 6 centimeters in 24 hours.
Although the level of the Doué remains below the alert level of 5 meters, this development is being closely monitored in a context of rainy season marked by regular rainfall in the Senegal River basin.
Faced with this gradual rise in water levels, authorities and observers are urging the public, especially those living along the riverbanks, to exercise caution and to increase supervision of children near waterways. Vigilance remains essential to prevent any incidents related to the rising river levels.
