The Saint-Louis Water Resources Brigade published its hydrological bulletin for August 17th. The general trend in the Senegal River basin is downward or stagnant at most stations, with levels significantly lower than those projected for the same period in 2025.

At the Manantali Dam, the Bafing River level was 198.38 m on August 17, 2026, at 8:00 AM. It was 201.2 m on the same date last year. The turbine flow rate is 283 m³/s, compared to 192 m³/s in 2025. As a reminder, the normal reservoir level is 208.05 m (IGN dam level) and the exceptional level is 211 m.

On the Falémé River at Kidira, the water level is at 3.02 m this morning, compared to 6.97 m in 2025. The trend is downward by 8 cm. On the Bakoye River at Oualia, the level is at 2.88 m, compared to 6.27 m in 2025. At Bakel, the river level is stable at 5.24 m, compared to 9.03 m in 2025. The alert level is set at 10 m. At Matam, the level is at 4.63 m, compared to 7.15 m in 2025. At Podor, it is at 3.46 m, compared to 3.84 m in 2025, and at Richard Toll, it is at 2.82 m, compared to 2.70 m in 2025.

At Diama, the upstream water level is at 2.15 m, compared to 1.9 m in 2025. The discharge rate is 712 m³/s, compared to 1430 m³/s last year. According to the bulletin, this level is intentionally lowered "to prepare for the passage of the flood without major impact on Saint-Louis." The lowering also allows for the rapid evacuation of water towards the river mouth.

At the Saint-Louis station, the river level is at 0.88 m compared to 0.95 m in 2025. The alert level is 1.75 m.

In mid-August, the levels of the Senegal River and its tributaries remain, with the exception of Richard-Toll, well below the 2025 levels. No station has reached its alert level.
