Fleuve Sénégal : Le niveau monte encore à Podor, la vigilance reste de mise
The level of the Senegal River continues to rise in Podor. A slight increase was recorded again on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, confirming the trend observed in recent days.
At the Podor hydrometric station, located at the Elhadj Boubou Sall quay, the water level was 3.43 meters at 8 a.m., compared to 3.42 meters the previous day at the same time. This change represents a rise of 1 centimeter in 24 hours.
While the rise remains moderate, authorities and local residents are urged to remain vigilant. The situation calls for particular attention to be paid to activities and facilities located near the waterway.
For comparison, at the same time last year, the level recorded in Podor was 3.67 meters, or 24 centimeters higher than the measurement taken this Wednesday.
With the alert level in Podor set at 5 meters, the current level remains below the critical threshold. However, with the water continuing to rise, caution is still advised, especially for families living or working near the river.
Special attention is also required regarding children and animals, as well as equipment exposed to water: canoes, fishing nets, floating containers, equipment and other installations near the banks.
Monitoring the evolution of the river level therefore remains essential in the coming days.
