Fleuve Sénégal : le niveau recule à Podor, après plusieurs jours de hausse
The level of the Senegal River has dropped slightly at the Podor hydrological station. This Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at 8 a.m., the water level measured 3.44 meters at the Elhadj Boubou Sall quay, compared to 3.46 meters the previous day at the same time.
This represents a drop of 2 centimeters in the space of 24 hours. This development marks a reversal after several days of rising river levels.
At the same time last year, however, the river level was higher, reaching 3.90 meters at the Podor station.
Despite this decrease, vigilance remains recommended for populations living near the waterway. As a reminder, the alert level at Podor is set at 5 meters.
The population is urged to keep a close eye on children and animals, and also to ensure the security of workplaces, canoes, fishing nets, floating containers, motor pumps and other equipment installed near the river.
Therefore, caution remains essential for those living along the river, especially with the continued fluctuations in the level of the Senegal River.
