Karpowership supports mangrove restoration in Senegal and expands its global vision for youth development

Karpowership soutient la restauration des mangroves au Sénégal et étend sa vision mondiale en matière de développement des jeunes

Dakar, Senegal – August 5, 2026 – Karpowership has strengthened its commitment to environmental sustainability and youth development through two social impact initiatives implemented under the One World Karadeniz Foundation.

In Senegal, the company supported the restoration of two hectares of mangrove forest in Joal-Fadiouth, where 20,000 mangrove propagules were planted in partnership with the local association AGIRE, community members, and local stakeholders. Simultaneously, Karpowership announced the launch of "Future Grandmasters," a new international program designed to identify and support promising young chess players under the age of 16, with Senegal among the countries being considered for a future phase of the program.

Supporting coastal resilience in Joal-Fadiouth

Located along the Senegalese coast in the Thiès region, Joal-Fadiouth is home to one of the country's main mangrove ecosystems. These natural habitats help protect coastal areas from erosion, provide spawning grounds for fish and other marine species, and ensure the livelihoods of local communities whose income depends on fishing, shellfish harvesting, and oyster farming.

Through the planting of 20,000 mangrove propagules, this initiative aims to contribute to the restoration of two hectares of coastal ecosystem while strengthening the area's long-term resilience. The project also supports the local blue economy by helping to preserve the natural resources upon which fishing communities depend, particularly women involved in seafood processing and trade.

This initiative brought together representatives from Karpowership, members of AGIRE, and local communities around a common goal: to protect the restored area and support its long-term development. Beyond planting, the project emphasizes the importance of community awareness, local ownership, and continuous monitoring to ensure the long-term success of mangrove restoration.

Commenting on this initiative, Ahmadou Kane of Karpowership Senegal stated:

“ Mangrove restoration is not just an environmental initiative; it is also an investment in local livelihoods, coastal resilience, and the future of communities that depend on these ecosystems. Through this project, we aim to create sustainable value by supporting both environmental protection and community development in Senegal. ”

From environmental management to youth development

Karpowership's commitment to creating long-term social value also extends to education, sports, and opportunities for young people. As part of this broader approach, the company launched "Future Grandmasters," a new social impact program implemented by the One World Karadeniz Foundation.

With Turkish grandmaster Ediz Gürel joining the program as an international brand ambassador, "Future Grandmasters" will identify and support promising chess players under the age of 16 in all countries where Karpowership is present.

The program was first tested in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, at a chess tournament held on April 11, 2026. The top three finishers in this tournament became the first young players selected for the program and thus had the chance to benefit from a year of training and mentoring provided by Grandmaster Nebojša Nikčević.

Building on this initial experience, Karpowership plans to adapt the "Future Grandmasters" program to its other countries of operation by collaborating with local partners to identify young talent and create long-term development opportunities.

Regarding this program, Zeynep Harezi Yılmaz, Commercial Director of Karpowership, stated:

“ Chess teaches young people patience, resilience, and the confidence needed to make decisions under pressure – qualities that extend far beyond the chessboard. After selecting our first three players, we now want to discover more young chess enthusiasts in all the countries where Karpowership operates, and offer them the support and opportunities they need to thrive, both athletically and personally .”

Senegal is among the countries being considered for the future development of the "Future Grandmasters" program.

Karpowership continued its community investment efforts in Senegal, with a focus on education and youth development, community development, health and environmental sustainability.

Following the mangrove restoration initiative in Joal-Fadiouth, Senegal is also among the countries being considered for a future phase of the Future Grandmasters program. As the program expands, Karpowership will seek to collaborate with local partners to identify promising chess players under the age of 16 and provide them with access to structured training, mentoring, and long-term development opportunities.

By combining environmental restoration with broader investments in youth and communities, Karpowership continues to demonstrate its commitment to creating significant and sustainable social value, alongside its contribution to Senegal's energy security.

Guided by its "One World" vision, Karpowership remains committed to creating lasting social value and providing concrete opportunities for young people in the communities it serves.
