Podor : la montée des eaux s’accélère, le Doué se rapproche dangereusement de la côte d’alerte
Water levels continue to rise in the Podor department. According to the latest hydrological data recorded this Saturday, August 1, 2026, at 8 a.m., the Senegal River is showing a further rise, while its tributary, the Doué, is also continuing its upward trend.
At the Podor hydrometric station, located at the El Hadj Boubou Sall quay, the level of the Senegal River rose from 3.23 meters on Friday to 3.26 meters on Saturday, an increase of 3 centimeters in 24 hours. At the same time last year, the water level was 3.45 meters.
Even though the river is still below the alert level set at 5 meters, this development is being closely monitored by the relevant services during this rainy season.
On the Doué side, a tributary of the Senegal River, the rising waters continue as well. At the Guédé Chantier gauge, the level reached 4.67 meters this Saturday morning, compared to 4.60 meters the day before, representing a rise of 7 centimeters in just 24 hours.
The Doué is thus gradually approaching its alert level of 5 meters, reinforcing the need for increased vigilance in the riverside communities.
Authorities are urging people to exercise caution, particularly by keeping a close eye on children, pets, and equipment installed near waterways, such as canoes, fishing nets, and floating containers.
During this period of flooding, residents are urged to remain attentive to the evolution of the hydrological situation in order to prevent any risk related to rising water levels.
