Mode: Mystère du sac à 27 millions de Mia Guissé: Seneweb contacte la maison Louis Vuitton
Artist Mia Guissé is making headlines again with her 27 million FCFA "baby." Oops, I mean her handbag. That's the price tag her team used (see video at the bottom of the article) to show off her latest purchase in Dubai: a Louis Vuitton Speedy P9 Bandoulière 40 (M24419) bag, which they claim she and Maître Gims are the only two owners of in the entire emirate. A beautiful story of luxury and exclusivity. Except our investigations tell a completely different story about this affair, which has divided Senegalese people in less than 24 hours.
The internet is ablaze. Criticism is pouring in, admiration is evident, and opinions are divided. On TikTok, for example, blogger Kalidou Sall, known as Kaliphone, and 2STV presenter Amdy Mignon are leading the charge. According to Kaliphone, the artist "Mia Guissé has no right to take advantage of the support of the Senegalese people for extravagant social events." Kaliphone argues that if Mia has become a millionaire, it's thanks to the 5,000 and 10,000 CFA francs that Senegalese people paid to attend her concerts simply to support her (he's alluding to the singer's difficult divorce). "Therefore, in return, she has an obligation, if she has the means, to help vulnerable Senegalese people." This view is corroborated by several internet users who cite Sadio Mané as an example. Similarly, Amdy Mignon states that Mia Guissé could have made her mark on Breast Cancer Awareness Month by supporting Lisca or helping flood victims during these difficult times. However, this star's whim doesn't bother others at all, who readily defend the artist, like the highly followed doctor-influencer nicknamed "Conscious Doctor," who reminds us of a simple truth: "Everyone who can afford it has the right to buy what they want, regardless of the cost, without having to justify themselves. However, caught between moral judgment and individual freedom, the bag has become a battleground."
Pont Neuf, Pharrell and 1930: the bag that resurrected Louis Vuitton in Senegal
But Seneweb wanted to go beyond the commentary. It all began on June 20, 2023, on the Pont Neuf in Paris. That evening, Pharrell Williams made his debut as Louis Vuitton's Men's Artistic Director and resurrected the iconic 1930 Speedy bag. He transformed it: gone was the rigid canvas, replaced by ultra-supple, pleated calfskin leather, available in eight colors. He christened it the P9, P for Pont, 9 for Neuf (its place of origin), but also for Nouveau (New). In record time, the Speedy P9 Bandoulière established itself as the most coveted accessory in the fashion world.
Designer Pharrell Williams himself set the tone. Spotted several times during Fashion Week, he sported a yellow Speedy bag adorned with a thick gold chain and a diamond-encrusted padlock. This unique piece, estimated at one million dollars (583,000,000 CFA francs), was immediately dubbed the Millionaire Speedy 40. It is, in fact, the only one that costs that much. On the runway of its inaugural show, the bag was already available in a bold color palette: red, yellow, green, and blue.
Since then, celebrities have been snapping it up. From Jacob Elordi to Usher, and including Naomi Campbell, they've all adopted it. The bag will officially launch in stores in January 2024 with the Spring/Summer 2024 collection.
LeBron James, Bellingham, Wembanyama…
Contrary to the legend surrounding the two Dubai-branded bags, this bag is truly global, and while its fan base is very exclusive, it's actually quite large. Louis Vuitton officially launched it on April 3, 2026, in its "In My Bag" campaign with six ambassadors: LeBron James in the yellow version, like Mia Guissé's; Jeremy Allen White in green; Jude Bellingham in red; rapper Future in blue; Jackson Wang in pink; and Victor Wembanyama in turquoise. The first person to wear it, however, was its creator, Pharrell Williams himself.

6.2 million in stores, 27 million in Dubai: where did the other 20 million go?
To understand this discrepancy and verify the bag's authenticity, Seneweb attempted to contact star Mia Guissé directly. Our questions were simple: Does the bag come with its Louis Vuitton certificate of authenticity? Is it simply a matter of personal preference, a celebrity whim? What attracted her to this particular model? Why yellow when blue, red, green, and camel are available? And above all, how does she feel when she wears it? Or is it simply a publicity stunt? Despite several calls and messages, we received no response. Neither did her manager. We then contacted Louis Vuitton. The company responded.
Louis Vuitton's response
After several inquiries, Seneweb contacted the parent company, Louis Vuitton, directly. After a few unanswered messages, a written message finally arrived: "A specialist advisor will get back to you as soon as possible."
Therefore, while awaiting this "specialist advisor," our research has shown that the price is clearly displayed: €9,500.00, or 6,231,591 FCFA. In the United States, it retails for $11,600 (approximately 6,774,608 FCFA). Even on the most speculative secondary market, the iconic yellow bag tops out at around €11,680 (7,609,000 FCFA). The advertised price of 27 million FCFA is therefore 20.7 million FCFA more than the retail price. What is undeniable about this bag is its originality. "It's authentic," emphasizes one connoisseur.
Whatever the debate around its price, one thing is indisputable: Mia Guissé has given the Speedy P9 invaluable visibility in Senegal and far beyond.

Néné Yaya, the "Senegalese Vuitton" who defies the world
Ultimately, it's in Senegal that the echo is most striking. At the end of our investigation, we contacted the Senegalese luxury leather goods company, Néné Yaya, nicknamed "the Senegalese Louis Vuitton." Since 2013, it has been manufacturing 100% leather bags in Dakar, prized by the Senegalese elite. And our question sums up the entire debate: why spend 27 million on Dubai to source something that local artisans can produce?
