Barely out of prison, they assault a Jakarta driver: The end of the road for two repeat offenders in Thiès

The police station of the 1st Arrondissement of Thiès has dismantled a network specializing in assaulting "Jakarta" motorcycle taxi drivers. Three individuals have been brought before the prosecutor's office on charges of criminal conspiracy, armed robbery committed at night, and receiving stolen goods.

The incident dates back to the night of July 10-11, when a driver in Jakarta managed to subdue one of his alleged attackers before handing him over to investigators. During his interview, the victim explained that a few days earlier, on July 5, the suspect had asked him for a ride to Fandène, claiming he had a hotel appointment.

But once he arrived in an isolated area, the driver found himself facing a real ambush. A second individual, armed with a machete, appeared to threaten him and force him to hand over his motorcycle and his bag.

Placed in police custody, the first person arrested quickly confessed. She admitted to the crime and implicated her accomplice. The investigation conducted by the Criminal Investigation Unit then led to the location and arrest of the latter as he attempted to leave the city. He, in turn, admitted to participating in the attack.

Police also recovered the stolen motorcycle from the brother of the second suspect. He was using it as a motorcycle taxi to transport passengers. He was arrested for receiving stolen goods.

The checks carried out by investigators revealed that the two main suspects were known to the police. Repeat offenders, they had just been released from prison after serving sentences of six and seven years respectively.

At the end of the investigation, the three accused were brought before the prosecutor's office to answer for the charges against them.
