Arrested by the Thiong gendarmerie: A fake gendarme from the Keur Massar BR had extorted money from two prostitutes

The Dakar-city territorial brigade, known as the Thiong gendarmerie, brought a man before the Dakar prosecutor's office on Monday who had been impersonating a gendarme from the Keur Massar research brigade (BR). MN, a former soldier, is being prosecuted for impersonating a gendarme, extortion, and fraud involving 30,000 CFA francs, according to Seneweb.

The events date back to the night of Friday, July 10, when the suspect left Keur Massar for Point E to extort money from residents. In this residential area, the former soldier broke into the apartment of a sex worker, KD.

According to sources close to the investigation, MN presented himself as an agent of the BR of Keur Massar and threatened to take the woman away if she did not give him the sum of 100,000 CFA francs.

Not having that amount, KD transferred 30,000 CFA francs to his personal Wave account. Deeming the sum insufficient, the forger seized three phones, including an iPhone 12 belonging to the victim and her colleague MF, before disappearing.

Following the complaint filed by the two prostitutes, investigators from the Dakar-ville territorial brigade arrested the suspect, MN, at Independence Square last Saturday. He was in possession of the three cell phones stolen from the victims. The gendarmes also seized military equipment from him.

When questioned under formal investigation, MN reportedly admitted to the acts without hesitation, before pleading for leniency. He was nevertheless brought before the public prosecutor at the Dakar High Court.
