Bambey : un sachet de lait à 100 FCFA lui vaut trois mois de prison ferme
On September 25, D. Ngom, a 68-year-old retiree, sent his 9-year-old grandson to buy a bag of milk for 100 CFA francs from his neighbor, Y. Guèye, a shopkeeper in the Bambey Thiappy neighborhood. According to L'Observateur, the elderly man then tried to exchange the milk for curdled milk, but was refused by the shopkeeper.
Enraged, the newspaper reports, the retiree went to the scene and threw the bag in his neighbor's face. After she threw it back, the man grabbed her arm and twisted it with such force that "the bone snapped clean off," resulting in a 21-day period of temporary incapacity for work. Faced with the failure of social mediation and the death threats made by the retiree, the victim filed a complaint with the Bambey gendarmerie.
Before the court, the newspaper of the Groupe Futurs Médias reports, the defendant denied the charges and attempted to plead self-defense, claiming that his neighbor had tried to strangle him. His version of events failed to convince the court. The court sentenced him to three months in prison and ordered him to pay 75,000 CFA francs in damages. He will serve his sentence at the Diourbel prison.
