Incendie volontaire à Tivaouane-Peulh : il met le feu dans la chambre de sa mère
Twenty-four-year-old apprentice driver F. Niang was brought before Prosecutor Cheikh Diakhoumpa, head of the Rufisque prosecutor's office, for arson. Detained on Monday, the suspected arsonist will spend his first night in prison.
The events date back to August 14th. According to Seneweb sources, the suspect was arrested by gendarmes from the local brigade in Tivaouane-Peulh following a complaint filed by his own mother.
In her statement, the complainant, O. Sarr, explains that her son had been exhibiting violent behavior towards her for some time, particularly when he needed money, at which point it was limited to verbal abuse. That day, around 10:00 a.m., she claims she left the house, leaving F. Niang alone. Upon her return, she finds that her son has gone to his room and set fire to the mattress with a lighter.
The flames reportedly spread at an alarming rate, causing significant property damage. Considering this a criminal act, the mother contacted the police to file a report and initiate legal proceedings against her son.
Alerted at 7 p.m. that same day, the commander of the Tivaouane-Peulh gendarmerie brigade immediately informed the Keur Massar firefighters before going to the scene to assess the situation. However, the fire had already been contained by local residents before the emergency services arrived.
During his hearing, F. Niang reportedly expressed no remorse for his actions.
