Rufisque: A female officer with the Defense and Security Forces (FDS) shot an assailant who was aiming a firearm at her.
Around 5 a.m., the MTOA neighborhood of Rufisque was the scene of a robbery attempt that backfired on its perpetrators. Two individuals on a Beverly motorcycle, armed with knives and a makeshift firearm, attempted to rob a group of women returning from a cultural event in the Mecs neighborhood.
Among the victims was FDS officer A.J.M.L. Sarr. Confronted by the assailants, she first fired a warning shot into the air with her 9mm automatic pistol to deter them.
The two criminals defied the warning, claiming she would not dare shoot at them. One of them then aimed his makeshift weapon directly at the officer. Acting in self-defense, she fired a second time, striking 27-year-old Mohamed Ndiaye in the lower right abdomen, according to Seneweb sources.
The victim, conscious and alive, was evacuated by firefighters to the Youssou Mbergane Hospital in Rufisque and later transferred under police guard to the Pikine Hospital. His accomplice, identified only by the initial M., fled the scene, but his residence has been located.
Investigators from the Rufisque Research Brigade are actively searching for him. The motorcycle was seized and impounded for the investigation.
Prosecutor Cheikh Diakhoumpa, head of the Rufisque public prosecutor's office, has been informed, and an investigation is underway.
