An eight-year-old girl, who was selling water in front of a school closed for the holidays at the Thiaroye military camp, claims that a 42-year-old street vendor, W. Sarr, asked her to go into the restroom before him. Fortunately, according to L'Observateur, the school's security guard, who was observing the scene, followed them and caught them face-to-face in the restroom, prompting police intervention. According to the newspaper, part of the Groupe Futurs Médias, which attended the hearing, the defendant was appearing in court on charges of indecent assault, abduction of a minor, and use of marijuana.
In court, W. Sarr denied the charges against the child. He claimed he was nearby smoking marijuana, which he admitted to possessing. Despite the absence of the girl and the caretaker from the hearing, the prosecution argued that the evidence gathered during the investigation warranted a conviction. The defense contested the accusations, citing the lack of established physical evidence and requesting an acquittal based on reasonable doubt.
The court ultimately acquitted W. Sarr of indecent assault but found him guilty of child abduction and marijuana use. He was sentenced to six months in prison.
