Thiès : arrêté avec 13 cornets de yamba, un conducteur de Jakarta risque deux ans de prison ferme
Mr. Sow, a motorcycle taxi driver from Jakarta, appeared in court for offering or supplying marijuana. He was arrested by police in possession of 13 packets of the drug.
In court, the defendant contested the accusations against him, claiming that the Indian hemp did not belong to him.
Before the judges, Mr. Sow denied having been in possession of the drugs. He maintained that they belonged to another person, but failed to convince the prosecution.
However, during the preliminary investigation, the Jakarta driver admitted that the 13 packets belonged to him. He explained that they were for his personal use. Presenting himself as a consumer and not a seller of Indian hemp, he denied any intention of commercializing them.
In his indictment, the public prosecutor considered that the defendant's guilt was established and requested a two-year prison sentence against him.
Following these submissions, the hearing was marked by a scene of distress. The defendant's mother collapsed in the courtroom, letting out cries that disrupted the proceedings and forced the court to temporarily suspend the hearing.
The case was ultimately adjourned for deliberation.
