Touba : interceptés après le vol d'une Jakarta, deux mécaniciens avouent une série de larcins
Mechanics by day, thieves by night. According to L'Observateur, which attended the trial, T. Mbaye (23 years old) and A. Faye (32 years old) used their motorcycle garage in the Darou Tanzil neighborhood of Touba as a cover for their criminal activities. After scouting their targets during the day, they would strike after nightfall. During the investigation, the two men confessed to stealing more than a dozen motorcycles.
The newspaper reports that on April 24th, the two accomplices stole a Jakarta motorcycle parked in front of a dibiterie (a type of street food stall) in Touba before fleeing towards Mbacké. However, the owner of the motorcycle immediately raised the alarm. About fifteen Jakarta drivers then gave chase and intercepted them near Ndoulo. Before the arrival of the gendarmes, the two suspects endured a rough time at the hands of their pursuers.
Tried on Wednesday before the Diourbel Magistrates' Court, the two garage owners, according to the same source, reiterated their full confessions, while expressing remorse and pleading for leniency from the court. Following the prosecution's recommendations to the letter, the court sentenced them each to two years in prison.
The newspaper from the Future Media Group specifies that the owner, having recovered his motorcycle intact following the chase, did not claim any financial compensation.
