Trafic de drogue aux Almadies : tous les chemins mènent au marabout de…
Libération, which broke the story, provides more details on the DIC's investigation into the nitrous oxide trafficking network dismantled in Almadies. In its Thursday edition, the newspaper reports that all leads point to a certain Mr. Sarr, described as a marabout (religious leader) and residing in Keur Mbaye Fall. He is believed to be "the main supplier" of the drug.
"The police then proceeded to arrest him and then to search his home, which resulted in the discovery and seizure of a stockpile consisting of thirteen cartons, each containing bottles of nitrous oxide," the same source reports.
When questioned by police, Mr. Sarr attempted to downplay his role to that of an intermediary. "He stated that the goods [found at his home] belonged to his friend, Mr. Sylla, alias 'Fantom,'" the newspaper reports. It also notes that during their investigation, police discovered that Mr. Sarr had been brought before the prosecutor for theft before being released.
As part of this investigation, four people were arrested. In addition to Mr. Sarr, the DIC (Criminal Investigation Division) apprehended taxi driver A. Sarr, security guard C. Diakhaté, and freight forwarder D. Kébé. Libération reports that they were brought before the prosecutor's office on charges of criminal conspiracy, endangering the lives of others, and drug trafficking.
