[Billet d'humour] Factures sans courant, rentrée des dépenses : ça disjoncte !
The heat is intense. The power goes out. The water disappears from the taps. But, strangely enough, the electricity bill knows neither load shedding nor outages. It always arrives on time. Even when the power itself takes a break.
The Senegalese are at their wits' end. They're under immense pressure, both literally and figuratively. Constantly searching for electricity has almost made them forget the high cost of living. The average household's shopping basket may continue to climb the stairs, but for now, it's the circuit breaker that's taking up all the space.
And as if that weren't enough, the start of the school year is just around the corner. Ugh! In some private schools, the supply list now looks like a construction estimate. Notebooks, books, uniforms, registration fees… and now chalk, tissues, reams of paper for the administration. Why not, tomorrow, the caretaker's salary and the school bus fuel?
At this rate, we'll soon have to ask parents to bring their own light bulbs to light the classroom.
The saddest thing is that it all ends up seeming normal. We grumble a little, we sigh a lot, then we pay. Because in Senegal, the consumer has become the last straw: they're pushed to their breaking point.
And meanwhile, nobody really bats an eye. The state watches. The bills arrive. The parents go into debt.
The school year hasn't even started yet, but families are already in survival mode.

Nopaloulène ce nouveau discours, malgré toutes vos vociférations, restera inaudible.
