A pirogue that left Gambia reached the Spanish island of El Hierro, in the Canary Islands archipelago, with 77 migrants on board, after an eight-day crossing.

According to information gathered from health and rescue services, the 77 passengers are from Gambia, Senegal, Guinea-Bissau, and Guinea. The group is mostly male, with five women and seven minors.

Upon their arrival at the port of El Hierro, the migrants were taken into care by the immediate emergency response team (ERIE) of the Spanish Red Cross, with the support of the Civil Guard and the National Police.
