Coupe du monde 2026 : L’ONU appelle Washington à revoir sa politique migratoire
With less than a day to go before the start of the 2026 World Cup, entry restrictions to the United States continue to raise questions within the international community.
On Wednesday in Geneva, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, urged the United States to re-examine the impact of its migration policies on the fundamental rights of the people concerned.
During a press conference, the UN official stressed the need for a thorough reflection on the human consequences of the measures in force.
"I really hope there will be a thorough reassessment of how the application of migration policies affects human rights and human dignity, particularly in the context of the World Cup. We need to rethink the policies that, unfortunately, seem to prevail at present, especially in the United States," he said.
These statements come as several human rights organizations express their concerns about the conditions of access to US territory for certain nationalities.
