Émigration clandestine : 123 personnes interceptées au large de Bassoul
A joint operation conducted by the National Gendarmerie, the Gandoul Marine Protected Area (MPA), and the French Navy resulted in the interception of 123 people and a suspected smuggler off the coast of Bassoul. Among those attempting to cross the border were women and children.
The operation took place in two phases. Initially, elements of the Gandoul Marine Protected Area intercepted a pirogue carrying 21 migrants and a suspected smuggler.
Upon the arrival of reinforcements from the Foundiougne Territorial Brigade and the National Navy in Djirnda, a second joint river patrol was organized. This led to the discovery of 102 more would-be illegal immigrants abandoned on an island off the coast of Bassoul, where they were clearly waiting to be put on a boat.
In total, 123 people were arrested, including 69 Senegalese and 54 Guineans, among them women and minors.
After their arrest, the people concerned were taken to the Foundiougne Territorial Brigade for identification and for the needs of the investigation.
The forces involved also seized a small canoe and a 15 horsepower outboard motor, which were handed over to the brigade.
The Foundiougne Territorial Brigade is continuing the investigation.
