ÎLES CANARIES : DES SÉNÉGALAIS PARMI LES 91 MIGRANTS SECOURUS APRÈS 7 JOURS EN MER
A new migrant boat from Gambia was rescued off the Canary Islands. On the night of Friday, October 30, at 9 p.m., the Spanish rescue ship Salvamar Diphda docked at the port of La Restinga, on the island of El Hierro, with 91 people on board.
The migrants were rescued 51 miles south of the island, after spending seven days at sea. They had left the Gambian coast, specifically Kartong, hoping to reach the European coast.
The group consists of 86 men, four women and one minor, from Gambia, Senegal, Mali and Guinea-Bissau.
Upon arrival, they were met by teams from the Red Cross, the Canary Islands emergency services, the Civil Guard, and the National Police. One of them, whose condition required special attention, was evacuated to the island's hospital.
After the initial assistance and identification operations, the 91 migrants are to be transferred to the Temporary Reception Center for Foreigners (CATE) in San Andrés, pending further administrative processing.
