US immigration services have arrested several Senegalese nationals. As of October 24, 2026, 303 Senegalese citizens were being held in detention centers in the United States, according to Demba Camara, Consul General of the Republic of Senegal in New York.
“Currently, we have very precise, exact figures because we are working closely with ICE. As of today, October 24, 2026, we have 303 compatriots in detention centers, not counting those who have already been deported,” he explained to the Media Senegal channel.
Demba Camara emphasizes that the arrests are continuing. This situation is placing "enormous pressure" on the Consulate General, he indicated. He specifies, however, that his office is working with the Senegalese community in the United States, associations, and NGOs to monitor these cases.
"Other individuals are also helping us to manage this somewhat difficult issue, but we are collaborating and working well with our embassy in Washington, which is in direct contact with the federal authorities," he added.
