MIGRATION IRRÉGULIÈRE : 395 MIGRANTS PARTIS DE LA GAMBIE DÉBARQUENT AUX ÎLES CANARIES
The migration route to the Canary Islands continues to see new arrivals. This Saturday, two boats that had departed from Gambia, carrying a total of 395 migrants, were rescued and then taken to the island of El Hierro, Spain.
The first boat carried 151 people, mostly men, including 15 women and 8 minors. According to information gathered from health and emergency services, the passengers were in apparently satisfactory condition upon arrival.
According to the migrants' accounts, they had left Jinack, Gambia, and spent six days at sea before being rescued. Nationals from Senegal, Gambia, and Guinea-Conakry were on board.
A second pirogue was then rescued with 244 people on board, including 19 women and 9 minors. Here too, the would-be migrants had departed from the Gambian coast before being transferred to El Hierro.
These two operations bring to 395 the number of migrants rescued this Saturday off the Canary Islands.
