Route des Canaries : Plus de 700 migrants secourus ce week-end
More than 700 migrants were rescued in the Atlantic Ocean and taken to the Canary Islands over the weekend. Spanish maritime rescue teams and the coast guard carried out several operations in the past 48 hours, according to reports.
The rescued individuals come from several African countries, including Senegal, Gambia, Mali, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, Ghana, and Liberia. Nationals of Morocco, Comoros, and the Democratic Republic of Congo are also among the migrants assisted.
This situation illustrates the continued departures via the Atlantic route, used in particular by migrants from Senegal and Gambia, with the Spanish archipelago of the Canary Islands as their destination.

According to data from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), more than 7,000 migrants had arrived in the Canary Islands from the beginning of the year until the end of September.
The Atlantic route thus remains one of the migratory routes to Europe, despite the significant risks associated with long sea crossings. The boats, often departing from the coasts of West Africa, are exposed to weather conditions, breakdowns, and a lack of food.
