Au moins 13 morts dans le crash d'un petit avion transportant des touristes dans le sud du Pérou (police)
At least 13 people died in the crash of a small plane carrying tourists who had gone to admire the Nazca Lines, one of Peru's main archaeological sites, police announced Saturday.
The plane crashed shortly after 1:00 PM (6:00 PM GMT), after taking off from Pisco airfield, some 240 kilometers south of Lima.
"Eleven passengers and two crew members died," police commander Jorge Andrade told reporters from the scene of the crash.
"Given the scale of the accident, there are no survivors. To date, we have recovered four bodies," added Commander Andrade, without specifying the identity of the victims.
He did not provide details on the causes of the accident and indicated that the Peruvian Civil Aviation Authority would conduct the investigation.
On site, firefighters and police officers are working among the debris of the still-smoking aircraft, according to images from local correspondents published on Facebook.
Pisco has an airfield where dozens of small planes operate, carrying a large number of passengers, mainly foreign tourists.
In 2022, a plane crash killed seven people, including two Chileans and three Dutch citizens. In October 2010, four British tourists and two Peruvian crew members died in another plane crash.
