Basket : attaqué par Trump, Lebron James répond avec ironie
Accused of "disrespect" by President Donald Trump on Thursday, LeBron James briefly responded to the controversy after Philadelphia's victory a few hours later in the NBA, stating that "it should have been a quiet day at the office."
The American president had attacked the NBA superstar on social media, accusing him of disrespectful behavior during the national anthem.
Donald Trump had posted a video on his Truth Social platform in which the basketball legend appeared to be doing warm-up moves while lined up alongside his teammates before a game.
"While listening to our national anthem, LeBron James is disrespecting our country! I said from the beginning he wasn't good, an ABSOLUTE SHAME," the Republican president wrote in a post accompanying the video.
He also added that the "King" owed it to "to apologize to all those great American warriors and heroes who died for the American flag and for everything our country stands for!"
When questioned in the mixed zone after the 76ers' victory against Cleveland on Friday (114-106), Lebron James did not dwell on the subject: "it's a quiet day at the office," he nevertheless replied, according to local media.
For his part, Philadelphia coach Nick Nurse also dismissed the controversy, stating that "it was just one of all the other outside noises we've experienced before."
On Friday, LeBron James had his first home game with the 76ers, who overcame a 29-point deficit to defeat the Cavaliers. The 41-year-old scored 17 points, grabbed 10 rebounds, and dished out five assists.
