Chine : 16 morts dans un séisme de magnitude 7 au Tibet
Sixteen people were killed and 32 injured in a magnitude 7 earthquake in Tibet, China, the official Xinhua news agency reported Friday morning, citing local officials.
More than 300 houses collapsed during the earthquake, which struck Thursday at 10:33 PM (2:33 PM GMT).
Authorities are assessing the damage and rescue operations are continuing, the agency said.
The epicenter of the earthquake, which occurred at 22:33 local time (14:33 GMT), is located in a mountainous region some 190 kilometers east-northeast of Nagchu and 390 kilometers northeast of Lhasa.
The epicenter is located in Maru Township, in Baqen District.
The deputy head of the canton, Lhawang Dagpo, said that the earthquake was clearly felt in the canton offices, where cracks appeared in the walls, according to Xinhua.
Electricity and telecommunications services were disrupted in the district capital.
Staff were sent to the scene to coordinate the response, and local officials were conducting checks in surrounding villages, according to the agency.
Earthquakes are frequent in the region.
In January 2025, at least 126 people were killed in a magnitude 6.8 earthquake that struck Tingri County, Tibet, not far from the Sino-Nepalese border.
