En France, un enfant de 10 ans inculpé pour tentative de viol et de meurtre
A boy aged only ten and a half was charged on Wednesday with the knife attack and attempted rape of a 22-year-old woman, the prosecutor of Saint-Brieuc announced.
The young woman was exercising in a wooded area of Saint-Brieuc on June 15 “when a male individual approached her and ordered her to undress, which she refused to do,” prosecutor Julien Wattebled said in a statement.
The attacker then stabbed him twice, once in the arm and once in the abdomen, before fleeing.
On Tuesday, officers on patrol spotted “an individual matching in every respect the description given by the victim” on whom they found a knife matching the one used in the attack.
The suspect, aged ten and a half, was placed in custody for 12 hours, a period renewed once by the prosecutor's office. During questioning, he admitted to committing the acts, the Saint-Brieuc prosecutor emphasized.
A judicial investigation was opened on Wednesday on charges of attempted murder and attempted rape with a weapon, and the minor was formally charged.
Since the law does not allow criminal measures for minors this young, the investigating judge ordered a provisional judicial educational measure (MEJP) with the prohibition for the boy in particular from leaving his home between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. and from contacting his victim.
