États-Unis: un tireur fait huit morts dans une maison de Pennsylvanie
A gunman killed eight people, including two children, in and around a house in Erie, a city in northern Pennsylvania, local media reported Erie News Now, adding that the suspect likely took his own life.
Police were called to the scene around 5:00 PM on Friday after witnesses saw a man firing a handgun outside the home before entering. Two women were found dead in the street, according to Erie News Now.
Once the police arrived, the suspect barricaded himself inside and shots rang out as officers ordered him to surrender.
Inside, the bodies of several victims were discovered, as well as that of the suspect, who allegedly turned his weapon on himself.
When contacted by AFP, the Erie police declined to comment at this time. A press conference with the mayor is expected this afternoon.
In a statement Friday evening, the Erie town hall described the event as a "terrible tragedy".
"We want to assure the public that the situation is under control. The shooter is dead, and there is no ongoing threat or danger to the public at this time," the statement said.
