Guerre au Moyen-Orient : Trump annonce des discussions imminentes entre les Etats-Unis et l’Iran au Pakistan
In an interview with the New York Post, Donald Trump indicated that new negotiations could take place in Pakistan within two days. He rejected any concessions on Iran's nuclear program.
In an interview with the New York Post on Tuesday, Donald Trump indicated that new talks between the United States and Iran could take place "within the next two days," according to the New York newspaper. He now mentions Islamabad as the preferred option for hosting these discussions.
In an initial phone call, the US president had described discussions as already underway, but progressing "slowly," while mentioning the possibility of a second round of negotiations in Europe. A few minutes later, he called back to correct this direction and emphasize the Pakistani capital.
"Something could happen in the next two days."
“You should really stay there, because something could happen in the next couple of days, and we are more inclined to go there,” he said of Islamabad, before adding: “It’s more likely, you know why? Because the field marshal is doing an excellent job.” He was referring to Pakistani Field Marshal Asim Munir, head of the Pakistani army, whom he credits with playing a key role in a previous agreement between Pakistan and India.
The American president defended this choice, citing the existing relationship: "He's great, and so it's more likely we'll go back. Why would we go to a country that has nothing to do with that?" He also stated: "I just think he's a very good man, this field marshal. You know, he ended the war with India; he saved 30 million lives."
Trump will not travel for the negotiations
Donald Trump also clarified that he would not participate directly in these discussions, without indicating who would represent the United States. He also expressed criticism of the proposals discussed during recent talks with Iran.
Finally, on the issue of Iran's nuclear program, he rejected the idea of a temporary moratorium on uranium enrichment: "I've been saying from the beginning that they cannot have nuclear weapons." He also refused any solution that would allow Tehran to claim a political victory: "I don't want them to feel they've achieved a victory."
