Influenceuse américaine décédée à Zanzibar : ChatGPT l’aurait poussée au suicide, selon la police locale
An influencer was found dead on April 9th in Zanzibar, Tanzania. While the circumstances of her death remain unclear, police have stated that ChatGPT may have driven her to suicide. Her family is cautious.
ChatGPT allegedly drove her to suicide. Ashly Robinson, an American influencer known as Ashlee Jenae, was found dead on April 9 in Zanzibar, where she was vacationing after celebrating her 31st birthday. The circumstances surrounding her death were initially unclear. But according to local authorities, the young woman took her own life, and ChatGPT played a role in her decision, The Tanzania Times reported.
Zanzibar's Deputy Police Commissioner, Zubeir Chembere, told the media at a press conference on June 4 that the case had been closed. According to authorities, who examined the deceased woman's phone, she had used ChatGPT to ask the artificial intelligence for methods of suicide. The influencer's interaction with ChatGPT is believed to be her last communication.
The cautious family
Many internet users are questioning the suicide theory: they are wondering how a very active social media influencer (she had over 100,000 followers on Instagram), who was having the vacation of her dreams and had just gotten engaged, could suddenly sink into depression to the point of considering suicide and actually taking action.
Ashley Robinson's family is reportedly planning to release a statement regarding the recent decision. They have already stated that the police neither notified nor informed them of the ongoing investigations and that they were taken by surprise when investigators concluded that Ashley had committed suicide. Her relatives had previously lamented the lack of information about the circumstances of her death and demanded a transparent investigation.
For his part, Ashley's fiancé, John McCann, 45, who was initially the prime suspect in the case, said that the fact that she was exonerated did not lessen his pain in any way.
The police chief of North Unguja in Zanzibar, Benedict Mapujira, had previously told the BBC that the couple had had a misunderstanding, which reportedly prompted the management of the Zuri Zanzibar to separate them into different rooms during their stay. The deceased woman's family also reported that Joe McCann took nearly 11 hours to inform them of the situation, "without providing many details."
