Actor Danny Glover, star of Lethal Weapon, reveals he has Alzheimer's disease

Danny Glover, the 79-year-old star of the "Lethal Weapon" franchise, has announced that he has been suffering from Alzheimer's disease for several years.

Sad news. In an interview with NBC's Today show, Danny Glover revealed on Wednesday, July 1st, that he has Alzheimer's disease. The Oscar-winning actor, who co-starred with Mel Gibson in the "Lethal Weapon" franchise, shared that this neurodegenerative disease, which impairs memory, has been a source of suffering for several years.

"I am certain that as the disease progresses, things will be different and will evolve," explained the comedian, who wanted to make his illness public as it affected his speech and slowed his movements, also confiding that he "can live with it, to a certain extent."

A diagnosis made in 2023

“My mind hasn’t fully accepted all aspects of the situation yet,” Danny Glover told People magazine, adding that he has been able to count on the support of his family since his diagnosis in 2023. “There are memories that come back and confirm that I’m capable of remembering things. And then there are moments I’ll never forget,” continued the star, who over the course of his long career has appeared in more than 150 films, including “The Color Purple” and “Mandela.”

His daughter, Mandisa, told People that he had an illness whose first symptoms appeared in 2022. While her father had "this unique ability to remember everything, down to the smallest detail," she explained, she noticed that "pieces of the story were missing."

Today, however, Danny Glover wants to remain positive. "I don't feel like this is the end of my life. There's work to be done," the star, who received an honorary Oscar in 2022 for his charitable work, emphasized a year before his diagnosis.

As a reminder, Alzheimer's disease is an incurable neurodegenerative disease that results in problems with memory, performing simple everyday tasks, speaking or writing, and orientation in time and space.
