Les Emirats arabes unis interdisent à leur tour les réseaux sociaux aux moins de 15 ans
In this decision reported by the official news agency WAM, the government "sets the minimum age for using social media at 15." "Children under this age are not allowed to create, use, or manage personal accounts on social media platforms," according to the same source.
Without specifying a definitive date for the ban, the government announces a one-year transition period to allow networks to comply and calls in particular for the implementation of "effective and reliable" age verification techniques and others to avoid any "circumvention".
"Parental consent does not constitute a valid exemption," he adds. And for teenagers aged 15 to 16, they will be able to use these platforms "subject to enhanced protection measures applied to their accounts."
The Emirati authorities reserve the right to partially or totally block platforms that do not comply.
Australia has banned social media for those under 16 since the end of 2025, as have more recently countries like Indonesia and Malaysia. The United Kingdom and Canada have announced their intention to implement similar measures, and in France, a bill is currently being debated in Parliament.
