Les Etats-Unis et l'Iran parviennent à un accord pour mettre fin à la guerre
The United States and Iran have reached an agreement to end the war in the Middle East "immediately and permanently" on all fronts, including Lebanon, the Pakistani mediator announced on Monday, with Washington and Tehran confirming shortly thereafter.
"The agreement with the Islamic Republic of Iran is now finalized," wrote US President Donald Trump on his Truth Social network a few minutes after the Pakistani announcement.
"I fully authorize the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz without transit fees and, at the same time, the immediate lifting of the American naval blockade. Ships from all over the world, start your engines. Let the oil flow freely!"
The agreement with the United States provides for "the immediate and definitive end of the war and military operations on the various fronts, including in Lebanon," Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi said on state television.
A signing ceremony will take place on June 19 in Geneva, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, a key mediator in the Middle East war, indicated on X.
"Now that the agreement is reached, the mediators will facilitate a series of meetings this week. These pre-implementation discussions will lay the groundwork for the technical talks and the official signing ceremony," he wrote.
US Vice President JD Vance has indicated that he plans to attend the ceremony, and that Donald Trump's participation is "possible" at this stage.
Shortly before the announcement of the agreement, Iran's highest security body, the Supreme National Security Council, warned on X of an "imminent" response to an Israeli raid that killed three people on Sunday in the southern suburbs of Beirut, a stronghold of the pro-Iranian Hezbollah.
Donald Trump had earlier stated on his Truth Social network that the Israeli attack "should not have taken place, especially on this particular day," Sunday marking his 80th birthday.
- "Furious" -
"I was furious," he later told Axios, claiming he had reprimanded Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu: "He has no fucking judgment. I let him know that."
Israel, which fears a compromise that does not satisfy its demands regarding its sworn enemy Iran, indicated that it had retaliated against Hezbollah drone attacks on its territory.
Iran had warned Israel that targeting the Lebanese capital was a red line.
Under pressure at home to end an unpopular conflict, which has also shaken the global economy, Donald Trump is due to meet this week with leaders of the major powers at the G7 summit in Evian, France.
"The objective will be to see the consequences of this agreement, the support for Lebanon, the reopening of Hormuz in the long term, and obviously the conclusion of an agreement on nuclear and ballistic missiles in Iran," said French President Emmanuel Macron on Sunday evening.
Triggered on February 28 by American-Israeli strikes, the war has engulfed the Middle East and caused thousands of deaths, mainly in Iran and Lebanon.
Since the ceasefire came into effect on April 8, Washington and Tehran had been seeking an agreement, but negotiations were stalled on many points: the Iranian nuclear program, control of the Strait of Hormuz, crucial for global hydrocarbon trade, lifting of sanctions against Tehran, and the inclusion of Lebanon.
Lebanon was drawn into the war on March 2nd, when Hezbollah targeted Israeli territory in support of Iran. Since then, Israel has been bombarding its neighbor, saying it wants to "eliminate" the Shiite movement, which in turn targets its positions and territory.
Israeli strikes have killed more than 3,700 people since the beginning of March, according to Beirut.
