Les organisateurs du festival Love Out Loud visés par une “vague” d’insultes homophobes
The organizers of the Love Out Loud festival in Turnhout filed a complaint with Unia on Wednesday after a “wave” of homophobic and insulting reactions.
The free Love Out Loud festival will be held on September 5th at Kasteelplein in Turnhout. Following the announcement of the event, expressions of support, but also a series of hateful reactions, were shared online.
According to the organizers, the incidents included insults directed at LGBTQIA+ people and reactions suggesting violence. They reported the incident to Unia and are considering further action with the police.
Proof that LGBTQIA+ visibility is still needed
“We can have an opinion,” the festival organizers noted. “We can also be critical. But insulting people, dehumanizing them, or suggesting violence is something else entirely.” The reactions prove that LGBTQIA+ visibility is still necessary, according to the organizers. “We often hear that visibility is no longer necessary, but as soon as we announce something positive, reactions like these resurface.”
Love Out Loud describes itself as a free and accessible festival centered on respect, encounters, and solidarity. The event is aimed at LGBTQIA+ people, families, young people, associations, and other residents of Turnhout.
