A Swedish court is due to deliver its verdict on Wednesday against a man in his sixties suspected of exploiting his wife to have paid sexual relations with 120 men.

The trial of this 62-year-old man, who appeared in custody between April 10 and May 26 in Härnösand (northern Poland), took place primarily behind closed doors. Prosecutor Ida Annerstedt requested a ten-year prison sentence.

The verdict is expected at 11:00 local time (09:00 GMT).

The man is accused of creating online advertisements, arranging dates, providing surveillance, and pressuring his wife to engage in online sexual acts to attract more clients. In addition to being charged with aggravated pimping, he appeared in court on eight counts of rape.

He was arrested in October after his wife reported him to the police. According to the indictment, the victim was in a "vulnerable situation".

Swedish prostitution law prohibits the purchase of sexual services, but not their sale, although it is illegal to facilitate the sale of sexual services.

The plaintiff claimed 1.1 million Swedish kronor (100,000 euros) in damages.

The prosecutor described the defendant's actions as "ruthless exploitation".

"I maintain that he took advantage of her situation while she was under the influence of drugs, under the influence of alcohol, and felt a deep fear of him," she told AFP at the start of the trial, noting that the accused was also being tried for assaults and threats in this case.

He had warned the plaintiff not to anger him, otherwise "the monster would be unleashed," the prosecutor emphasized during the trial.

"He treated her like a bank card and sold her like merchandise," Silvia Ingolfsdottir, the plaintiff's lawyer, told the public broadcaster SVT.

The events are said to have taken place between August 11, 2022 and October 21, 2025.

Martina Michaelsdotter, the defendant's lawyer, told AFP at the start of the trial that her client disputed the accusations.

Sweden was shocked by these revelations and comparisons were made with the case in France of Dominique Pelicot, sentenced in December 2024 to 20 years imprisonment for drugging his wife Gisèle in order to deliver her to dozens of strangers to rape her in their home in Mazan (south), between 2011 and 2020.
