L'UE annonce une aide de 710 millions d'euros aux personnes touchées par les crises, notamment en Afrique
The European Union (EU) will release 710 million euros to help people affected by crises, natural disasters or conflicts, mainly in Africa, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced on Saturday.
"Conflicts, extreme weather events and the rising cost of living are disrupting the lives of many people around the world," she told the United Nations General Assembly in New York, according to a statement.
Thanks to this aid, "we will support displaced communities across Africa, as well as the communities that host them," she added.
In sub-Saharan Africa, the EU will allocate some 380 million euros to finance actions related to migration, "focused on the protection of vulnerable migrants, support for voluntary return and reintegration", according to the press release.
This package announced on Saturday also includes 252 million euros to provide emergency support to people and communities affected by conflict, displacement, epidemics and natural disasters.
These funds are intended in particular for the populations of sub-Saharan Africa, to the tune of 97 million euros, the Palestinian territories and Lebanon (103 million euros) and Ukraine (52 million euros), in order to help them prepare for the coming winter.
Smaller amounts will be allocated to promoting stability in the Great Lakes region, as well as to providing assistance to the Democratic Republic of Congo to combat the Ebola epidemic in the east of the country.
