Manifestations en France : Emmanuel Petit monte au créneau et interpelle les politiques
Former French international Emmanuel Petit has broken his silence. In a video posted on Instagram on Sunday, the 1998 World Cup winner expressed his anger at the violence and vandalism that occurred on October 17. Beyond condemning the acts of vandalism, the former Arsenal and FC Barcelona midfielder primarily demonstrated his commitment by directly addressing political leaders about the country's social situation.
Emmanuel Petit didn't mince words. Visibly upset, the former player (56 years old) denounced the destruction and excesses seen during the demonstrations. "They're destroying everything, breaking everything," he lamented, expressing his "deep anger" at these actions.
However, the RMC consultant was careful to distinguish between the perpetrators of the violence and the protesters defending their demands. While he strongly condemned the vandalism, he stated that he understood the concerns expressed in the streets. This stance reflects his desire to denounce the violence without ignoring the underlying social unrest.
His remarks also took a controversial turn when he addressed the issue of immigration and the responsibility of those involved in the unrest. These comments reinforced the aggressive tone of his media appearance.
But it was above all to the political class that Emmanuel Petit addressed his most direct message. The former French international criticized political leaders for focusing on the conquest of power, to the detriment of the daily struggles of citizens.
“I am addressing the entire political class, all the parties that are fighting to have absolute power in a few months. There is no money for anyone, except for you politicians. […] We have the right to demand things from the State. But where are you, what are you doing?” he exclaimed.
With this intervention, Emmanuel Petit intends to denounce what he considers a disconnect between the ambitions of the leaders and the expectations of the population. Far from simply condemning the violence, the former world champion has thus chosen to take a public stance on the social and political issues facing France.
