«Nos élections sont tellement truquées, vous n’avez pas idée» : Donald Trump s'emporte finalement contre les résultats
Donald Trump complained on Thursday that the US elections were "rigged", after the resounding victory of the Democrats who will have at least 250 representatives from January, according to projections by several American media outlets.
The Republican president, who had quickly promised on Tuesday evening to accept the results, returned on Thursday to his perennial - and unfounded - accusations of electoral fraud by the Democrats.
"Our elections are so rigged, you have no idea," he told reporters in the Oval Office of the White House.
Two days after the midterm elections, Democrats are assured of having at least 250 elected representatives in the House of Representatives, according to projections Thursday by CNN and Fox News.
A number that could still increase as vote counting continues in about twenty precincts across the United States.
They are already guaranteed to have at least 65 more representatives than the Republicans.
After a landslide victory, the Democrats have also already flipped seven Senate seats and will have a majority of at least 54 senators out of 100, while results are still pending for Alaska and Mississippi.
Regarding Alaska, Donald Trump had complained earlier on Thursday about the still uncertain outcome of the Senate race in this traditionally conservative Arctic state.
"The votes for the fake Dan Sullivan (...) should be immediately credited to the REAL Dan Sullivan, and the election is over - he wins easily. There is no other fair way!", the US president wrote Thursday morning on his Truth Social platform.
A namesake of the Republican senator had indeed put himself forward as a candidate.
A maneuver to dilute the votes of the incumbent, according to revelations by the New York Times, even though the Democrats have denied being behind it.
With nearly 75% of the ballots counted, Democratic candidate Mary Peltola has only a slim lead of about 600 votes over her rival.
The other Dan Sullivan is at 1.7% of the votes, with 3,600 votes.
In Mississippi, another state seemingly unlosable for the right, Democratic candidate Scott Colom has precisely 1,138 votes ahead of incumbent Republican Cindy Hyde-Smith after 96% of the ballots have been counted.
The scale of the Democratic victory is already historic, both in Washington and in local legislatures.
The 350 million Americans will have to wait until January 3 to discover their new Congress, whose Senate will be able to block Donald Trump's federal appointments.
As for the House of Representatives, it is likely that it will elect Hakeem Jeffries as its new "speaker", or president, who would become the first black elected to this position.
In a letter sent Wednesday to his fellow elected officials, he clearly outlined the Democratic roadmap: "To do everything (their) possible to significantly reduce the cost of living."
Inflation, exacerbated by the war in Iran, is the determining factor explaining the Republican electoral debacle.
The second priority displayed by these democrats with a conquering tone is to counterbalance the power they consider "out of control" of the executive branch.
"We will hold the crooks accountable," promises Hakeem Jeffries, denouncing "the massive corruption suffered by the country at the hands of the Trump cartel."
Numerous parliamentary inquiries are expected.
The Republican president, who refuses to take responsibility for the defeat, appeared out of touch on Wednesday, preferring to focus on his future ballroom at the White House, a project dear to his heart.
Several leading figures in the Republican Party were quick to abandon their usual restraint, like Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, for whom the defeat is akin to "an extinction for Republicans in many parts of the country, unprecedented in a century."
Vice President JD Vance has distanced himself from Donald Trump like never before, publicly stating that the war in Iran was "the reason" for the debacle.
