Russia: Putin receives Assimi Goita at the Kremlin

Russie : Poutine reçoit Assimi Goïta au Kremlin

On the sidelines of the 3rd Russia -Africa Summit in Moscow, the President of the Malian Transition, General Assimi Goïta, was received yesterday, Friday, October 30, by his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, at the Kremlin. At the beginning of the meeting, the Russian leader commended President Goïta's personal commitment to the Mali-Russia partnership and recalled the entry into force last May of the fundamental agreement on relations between the two countries.

He also announced an increase in the number of scholarships awarded in Mali. The quota has been raised to 300 for the 2026-2027 academic year.

Benefit from Russia's experience in solar, civil nuclear and electricity grids

Speaking after the Kremlin occupant, the Malian president referred to the current geopolitical upheavals, which, according to him, make a closer rapprochement between Bamako and Moscow "imperative".

He expressed the wish that Russian-Malian cooperation would develop further and extend beyond its traditional areas.

The leader hopes to benefit from Russia's experience in solar energy, civilian nuclear power, power grids, and technical training, among other areas. He also expressed his desire to process his country's mineral resources locally and hopes for Russian support as well as a gradual transfer of technology.

The Russian partner forces "are fighting alongside us for our territorial integrity"

Regarding the fight against terrorism, Assimi Goita praised the commitment of the Russian partner forces.

"They are fighting alongside us for our territorial integrity," said the Malian president, who also proposed expanding this partnership to include intelligence, territorial surveillance equipment, and cybersecurity.

Assimi Goita travelled to the Kremlin with several collaborators, including his Foreign Minister Abdoulaye Diop, his Communications Advisor, his Diplomatic Advisor, his Chief of Staff and the Chief of Staff of the Air Force.
