Devastating earthquakes in Venezuela: Latin American countries mobilize to help Caracas

Collapsed buildings, bodies buried under rubble, screams, cries and tears. This is the grim scene Venezuela has presented to the world since Wednesday, after being struck by two almost consecutive earthquakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 on the Richter scale.

So far, the death toll stands at 164, with 971 injured. But the toll could rise in the coming hours. Interim President Delcy Rodriguez herself indicated that the information gathered does not yet include victims from La Guaira, the region north of the capital, considered the hardest hit.

Chile has announced the dispatch of humanitarian aid and relief supplies.

This devastating double earthquake has deeply affected the states of Latin America. Chile, which does not maintain diplomatic relations with Venezuela, has announced the dispatch of humanitarian aid and relief supplies to the country.

“I just spoke on the phone with Delcy Rodriguez to express Chile’s solidarity during this difficult time for the Venezuelan people,” Chilean President José Antonio Kast wrote on his Instagram account. Some 700,000 Venezuelans live in Chile, forming the country’s largest migrant community. This explains Santiago’s support for Caracas.

El Salvador, Cuba, Brazil, Bolivia, Panama and Ecuador are also willing to help

In addition to Chile, El Salvador also announced that it had mobilized 300 rescuers and ambulance workers.

These men are ready to embark for Caracas, with 50 tons of equipment, medicines and emergency supplies.

Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel also indicated that he was ready to deploy specialized search and rescue teams to Caracas. His Brazilian, Bolivian, Panamanian, and Ecuadorian counterparts also made similar statements, offering their assistance to Caracas.
