Un écolier de 6 ans se noie lors d’une séance de natation
The tragedy occurred on Tuesday in a swimming pool in Conches-en-Ouche, in the Eure department. An investigation has been opened.
A 6-year-old boy drowned on Tuesday during a school swimming session at the Conches-en-Ouche swimming pool in Eure, in circumstances that are still undetermined, according to concordant sources on Wednesday.
An investigation for involuntary manslaughter has been opened "in order to understand the circumstances of the tragedy and to assess whether criminal responsibilities appear to be warranted," Evreux public prosecutor Rémi Coutin told AFP, confirming information from ICI Normandie.
The swimming session in which the child participated on Tuesday afternoon was supervised by several swimming instructors, according to the radio.
The autopsy of the victim, aged 6 and not 8 as initially indicated, will take place in the coming days, Mr. Coutin specifies.
“We are thinking of all the classmates, supervisors, parents and staff confronted with this unspeakable tragedy. Thank you to our teams, the firefighters, the caregivers who tried everything, in vain,” wrote the mayor of Conches-en-Ouche, Jérôme Pasco, on his Facebook page on Wednesday.
"Understanding what happened is essential, but everyone must keep their cool and avoid making random comments," he insists.
The investigation has been entrusted to the gendarmes of the Evreux research brigade.
