Un pétrolier touché par de multiples projectiles au large du Qatar, des victimes (agence maritime)
An oil tanker sailing off the coast of Qatar reported being hit "by multiple projectiles" and an undetermined number of casualties, the British maritime safety agency UKMTO reported Wednesday evening.
The incident occurred 51 nautical miles (94 kilometers) off the coast of this small Gulf state, the agency said, and some 500 km from the Strait of Hormuz where ships are regularly attacked.
This maritime route, through which a fifth of the world's hydrocarbons passed before the war, is at the heart of the conflict in the Middle East, triggered at the end of February by strikes by the United States and Israel against Tehran.
Since then, Iran has claimed control of this strategic passage and has been hindering maritime traffic by targeting ships venturing there without its permission.
Washington is in turn imposing a naval blockade on Iranian ports, and escorting oil tankers, which are increasingly crossing the strait, while negotiations to end the war remain at an impasse.
