Twenty-five children from the Marcel-Cachin elementary school in Villejuif (Val-de-Marne) were treated by emergency services on Tuesday, May 12, after ingesting ketamine. One of them, a 9-year-old, reportedly found a packet of this powder, an anesthetic diverted for drug use, at the metro exit before bringing it to the school.
An almost unbelievable case. Several students at the Marcel-Cachin elementary school in Villejuif (Val-de-Marne) suffered from fainting spells on Tuesday after inhaling ketamine, CNEWS learned from police sources.
Shortly after 2 p.m., firefighters were dispatched to the scene following several reports from within the school. According to the prefecture, a 9-year-old child discovered an envelope containing white powder on the subway before bringing it to school.
No children hospitalized
In total, 25 children inhaled the substance. Analyses by the central laboratory of the police headquarters confirmed that it was ketamine, a psychotropic drug used as an injectable anesthetic, which can also be used as an analgesic, sedative, and in veterinary medicine.
For the time being, no children have been hospitalized, the prefecture stated. All have been picked up by their parents.
