Violences sexuelles : le chanteur français Patrick Bruel en garde à vue
French singer Patrick Bruel was taken into custody on Monday as part of a sexual assault investigation "which at this stage concerns 13 alleged victims," the justice system said in a statement.
The ongoing investigation "concerns the allegations made by three women against Patrick Bruel for sexual assault and attempted rape" between 1997 and 2001, the Nanterre prosecutor's office (Paris region) added. It also concerns "rape or attempted rape, sexual assault, and harassment" reported by other women in France and Belgium.
The singer of songs that became cult classics for a generation of French people, such as "Casser la voix" and "Place des grands hommes," is the subject of four rape complaints in France and a judicial investigation for sexual assault in Belgium. He denies all the allegations against him.
Under pressure, the 67-year-old French star announced on Friday the cancellation of most of his upcoming tour, which was due to start in mid-June in Paris before taking him to festivals.
His three Montreal dates were cancelled by the organizer on Wednesday. Several concerts are still scheduled for the fall at this stage .
