Actes contre nature et VIH : Des peines de 3 à 7 ans de prison ferme prononcées contre 29 prévenus
All roads converged on the Tambacounda courthouse this Wednesday for the judgment of a sprawling case that had the city on tenterhooks. Twenty-nine (29) people with varied socio-professional profiles, including four students, three traders, two students, two medical representatives, two tailors, two hoteliers, two health workers, a Canal+ employee, a merchant, an NGO development agent, a molder, an economic operator, a driver, a carpenter, a nursing assistant, a guard, two teachers and a poultry farmer, appeared before the High Court.
They were being prosecuted for acts against nature, deliberate transmission of HIV/AIDS, and endangering the lives of others.
A drug trafficking network was dismantled in a high school toilet.
The case dates back to September 24, 2026. Around midnight, officers under Commissioner Sarr of the Tambacounda police caught two male students, MD and CTD, in the act of having sex in the toilets of the Mame Cheikh Mbaye High School. A thorough analysis of their cell phones and subsequent interviews conducted by investigators allowed them to trace the network and identify all the accomplices and partners involved.
During the hearing, the prosecution requested heavy sentences of up to seven years' imprisonment for the charges of sodomy and HIV transmission, and between two and five years for other defendants. The defense, after raising procedural objections, argued for the outright acquittal of its clients.
The court's verdict: 4 acquittals and prison sentences
In their deliberations, the judge and his two assessors acquitted four defendants: the merchant MB, the carpenter SL, the music teacher DCB, and the health worker MKD.
However, the harshest sentences were handed down to the main defendants. Student CC received the maximum sentence of seven years in prison for sodomy and intentional HIV transmission. Students MD and CTD were sentenced to five years in prison, while their classmate YF received a two-year sentence. Carpenter CS, driver MS, and nursing assistant DB each received five-year sentences. NGO development worker RD was sentenced to four years in prison.
Three-year prison sentences were handed down to Professor MT, students MB and MN, hotelier MN, poultry farmer CD, security guard BC, shopkeeper BD, tailor LNB, and Canal+ agent MC.
Furthermore, the court decided to postpone until November 4th the deliberations concerning seven defendants, namely the businessman MD, the medical representative KAS, the driver SK, the tailor KD, the tailor BN, the medical representative IB, and the hotelier BD.
