Aziz Dabala case: Nabou Leye's lawyers appeal to the Indictment Chamber

A new twist has emerged in the Pikine Technopole double murder case, which claimed the lives of dancer Abdoul Aziz Ba, known as "Aziz Dabala," and young Boubacar Gano, alias "Wally." According to Seneweb, the lawyers for dancer Marème Lèye, better known as Nabou Lèye, have filed a new legal challenge to contest her detention.

In a request dated July 22, 2026, the defense petitioned the President of the Indictment Division for automatic release. In its request, the defense relied on the provisions of Article 129 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

On June 22, 2026, the defense filed a request for house arrest with electronic monitoring with the Senior Investigating Judge of the Pikine-Guédiawaye High Court.

However, a month after this request, the investigating magistrate has still not ruled on it. Furthermore, the public prosecutor's office has also failed to submit its recommendations within the legally mandated timeframe. Faced with this delay, Nabou Lèye's defense team is requesting the intervention of the indictment division to order her immediate release.

For the lawyers, this request is all the more justified as the results of the DNA tests support their client in her statements made both during the preliminary investigation and before the investigating magistrate when she maintained that she had never been involved in the double crime.

Charged with conspiracy, complicity in murder and acts of barbarity, Nabou Lèye has been in custody since August 2024. Her lawyers continue to plead her innocence, claiming that the case file contains no material evidence directly incriminating her.

The ball is now in the court of the indictment chamber, which will have to decide the case.
