Burglary at the Public Treasury's IT Department: a new suspect arrested by the Urban Security Unit

An alleged accomplice in the burglary at the Public Treasury's IT Department has been arrested by the urban security unit of the central police station in Dakar, Seneweb has learned.

The events date back to the night of March 1st to 2nd, 2025, when individuals broke into the premises of the aforementioned department. As part of the investigation into the perpetrators of this burglary, detectives from the Urban Security Division arrested a new suspect on August 19th, 2026, presented as an accomplice in the case. This arrest followed investigative actions carried out after the apprehension of the main perpetrator.

Taken to the police station and questioned, the suspect, who identifies himself as a motorcycle taxi driver ("Tiak-Tiak") and a resident of the Rebeuss neighborhood, admitted to all the charges against him. He stated that he had sold three stolen computers to the manager of a computer equipment store located in the Medina district for four hundred thousand (400,000) CFA francs.

The suspect also stated that he subsequently attempted to retrieve the equipment from its buyer after the case received significant media attention. However, the buyer reportedly told him he had already resold the computers and advised him to leave the country.

The accused also claimed that the alleged buyer had died the day after the Tabaski 2026 festival. A visit to the premises by investigators allowed them to hear the manager of the business in question, who confirmed the death of the person concerned, which occurred during June 2026 as a result of an illness.

The suspect was taken into custody after being questioned. The investigation is ongoing to shed full light on this case.
