Boy Djiné was remanded in custody on Monday, June 29, for possession of communication devices in prison and complicity in smuggling contraband into prison. During a search of his cell at the Liberté 6 Penal Camp, guards found, among other things, two cell phones. Baye Modou Fall, his legal name, admitted to the charges.
This is Boy Djiné's third time being remanded in custody. The man nicknamed the "ace of escapes" is already in prison, awaiting trial in two pending cases before the court of summary jurisdiction.
He was brought before this court for trial on Wednesday. However, the hearing was postponed until July 15th.
Les Échos, which broke the story, reports that during the examination of Boy Djiné's phone, investigators discovered "numerous videos and photographs, mostly dating from 2023, many of which are pornographic." The history of his Wave account was also examined. According to the newspaper, it revealed "nothing significant, apart from two deposits of 10,000 CFA francs each from phone numbers registered to S. Ndiaye and 'Cheikh'."
The same source reports that "the investigation also revealed that digital analysis of the WhatsApp application installed on Baye Modou Fall's phone showed that the suspect frequently communicated with people outside the country." To clarify this point: "The police nevertheless stated that the examination of the conversations in question revealed nothing of particular interest to the investigation."
