Condamnation à 5 milliards : l’UCAD gagne face aux étudiants et à l’ancien recteur Ahmadou Aly Mbaye
Cheikh Anta Diop University faced two trials this morning. One was against the former rector, Ahmadou Aly Mbaye, and the other against students who had taken legal action after their expulsion. At the conclusion of the hearings, UCAD won both cases.
In a dispute with the students, the University was ordered on September 28th by the summary proceedings court to pay 5 billion CFA francs to Aliou Gningue, Cheikh Tidiane Diop, and Mamour Diongue for failing to reinstate them. These three students were expelled from FASEG in 2016 by the Disciplinary Board following disturbances on campus.
Based on a Supreme Court ruling, they attempted to seize UCAD's accounts to recover their funds. However, this Monday, the Dakar High Court, ruling in summary proceedings, ordered the release of the seizure from UCAD's accounts, ordered provisional enforcement, and ordered Aliou Gningue and his colleagues to pay court costs.
In other words, UCAD's accounts will remain open, even if the students and their legal counsel appeal the decision, and they will bear the costs associated with this specific legal action. This is therefore a first victory for UCAD, pending the trial concerning the award of 5 billion dinars to the students.

Regarding the case between UCAD and Ahmadou Aly Mbaye, the judge in chambers rejected all of the former rector's demands, which included payment of his salary arrears as director of WASCAL, the return of his office equipment, and payment of a penalty by UCAD. His claims were dismissed by the court. It should be noted that Ahmadou Aly Mbaye initiated legal proceedings after being replaced as head of WASCAL ( West African Science Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use ) .
